Hello, this is Cookie.

We hope she will be 6 years old on March, but last week she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left front leg and so tomorrow, Jan. 8th 2013, we’ll be going to the vet to see if the cancer has not spread too much yet  and see if amputation and chemo can help her live a little bit longer and still be happy.

We hope that this is the first of many posts…..

  1. Good luck to Cookie. This is a very difficult time for you, we know. Hang in there, and take advantage of this wonderful community here on Tripawds. We are all pulling for you.
Elgin just turned 5 in November, 3 months after his left rear leg was amputated due to osteosarcoma. Luckily his lungs have remained clear and he received his last chemo last week. Hopefully we will all enjoy our DDBs for a good (relatively) long time.

  2. Welcome Cookie! What a beauty you are! We are sorry you had to find us here 🙁 Lots of us here are dealing with Osteosarcoma, so let us know what you need!!

  3. Welcome to Tripawds- I’m sorry cancer has brought you here. I Hope you take advantage of the forums on this site- lots of information there on dealing with OSA and amputation, and lots of stories to inspire and give you hope.
My little pug Maggie lost a leg to mast cell cancer- her prognosis took her just past her 8th birthday… Maggie lived to 11!! No false promises- but it does happen.

  4. Cookie looks pretty resolute in that photo! I hope your vet appointment gives you good news, and that you can proceed with amputation. I would love to see photos of Cookie’s 6th Birthday! Good luck, and post news when you can!!

  5. Tnx. All went relatively well today….we now have our hopes set on trying to make to XMas 2013……

  6. Cookie, you are so gorgeous. With your determination and spunk, I know you’ll do just fine. Our paws and fingers are crossed for you sweet girl. Thanks for joining us here.

  7. Best of luck – she will be a trooper just like my Christy was – same diagnosis, same amputation! enjoy every minute!!! Tripawds are amazing – you will be so proud. Put carpet runners all over the wood floors are very helpful!!! best tip I ever had, that and a t-shirt over her body to keep her from getting at the stitches. If it gets to be time to do a daily chemo drug (metronomic) , be careful of her tummy, we lost my girl to a rupture in her abdomen which I attribute to the daily cancer drugs – I’d do it again in a heartbeat, but would have give a tummy coating of some kind if I knew how bad it was tearing her up inside.

  8. Tnx Liz…….we spent the majority of the afternoon “dog-proofing” the house and getting measurements for the carpet runners. Tnx so much for all the info. Hopefully she’ll be home on Friday!!

  9. Il racconto di cookie che correva nel sogno mi ha proprio commosso e adesso che ha la febbre mi dispiace ancora di più,si può fare così poco e bravi Voi a curarla con tanto amore! Vi penso e tanti abbracci a tutti e 3

  10. What an unexpected treat for Paolo and me to see Cookie today. She looked so happy, energetic and full of life! I am still smiling thinking of her enjoying one of her favorite spots by the lake. I wish her health and comfort during her treatment and Paolo and I look forward to again seeing that big, beautiful face of hers.:)
